BBC Introducing Artist RIYA has received continued support from the likes of Rolling Stone and the BBC. Most recently, she performed two sets as the solo act for ‘The Hundred X BBC Introducing Stage’ at Headingley stadium in front of 30,000 people. She was also on the lineup for this year’s Manchester International festival at Factory International and her latest release was both playlisted on BBC Radio and featured on Ankur Desai’s track of the week. A force to be reckoned with, RIYA writes and produces all her music, collectively amassing over a million views on YouTube, winning the top 9% ISC songwriting spot from over 30,000 applications. She has performed for numerous prestigious venues including XOYO London, Macron Stadium, Troxy London, Barbican Theatre, the Tate Museum and 02 Academy2 London for International Women’s Day. The young songstress has been personally invited by Oxford University to perform for their annual charity gala at the renowned Oxford Union Hall, and was selected as one of six participants to complete an artist residency with the iconic SAGE GATESHEAD in Newcastle. Riya has also been scouted to perform for Sofar Sounds, secured festival slots with ‘Sound From The Other City’, ‘First Street’ Festival, ‘Manchester International festival’ and recently, was invited to perform at the incredible Manchester Museum. Through her distinct production style , soaring melodies, powerhouse vocals and punchy percussive sections, Riya has made a name for herself making it impossible to ignore. Her uptempo, raw emotive pop anthems have attracted the attention of national and international TV and radio stations. She was one of 12 participants across Europe selected for the MCN LEC project; When attending the Manchester and Groningen MCN LEC camps, Riya’s song was chosen to be used in their social media advertisement campaign. Along with her unique dance-pop sound, she embodies her influences as an artist, incorporating a distinct sense of fashion as seen in the music videos for ‘Look My Way’ and ‘Permission’ wearing strong paisley prints as well as bold jewellery reminiscent of her Bollywood influences. Singer, songwriter, and producer, Riya writes and produces all her original work from her home studio. The “young songstress” is trained to high levels in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and piano. Riya is a classically trained vocalist achieving Grade 8 Distinction and preparing her diploma all before 17. One to watch, she has a bright future ahead. Having already been chosen in a competition hosted by luxury fashion brand COACH, and securing support from the ‘NEXT GEN’ youthmusic project.
